The Doohickeys consists of singing and writing duo Haley Spence Brown & Jack Hackett.
Haley hails from Liberty, Missouri, where she spent her childhood training horses and
helping on her grandpa’s cattle farm. Jack grew up in a strict Japanese-American
household in Atlanta, Georgia where you had to take your shoes off at the door
(…everything else was pretty lax).
Although they have country roots, the duo met at USC (FIGHT ON!) while working on the
college TV station’s satirical news show. On one fateful evening, Jack was hosting a
legendary Halloween party when Haley heard the sounds of Kenny Chesney echoing
through the spookily decorated halls. Right then, they discovered their mutual love of
country music. The next day, they wrote the song I Wish My Truck Was Bigger.
Their debut album “All Hat No Cattle” has charted at #1 on the Roots Music Report and #21
on the Americana Radio charts. They also currently have 3 singles on SiriusXM’s Outlaw
Country.
The Doohickeys have gained significant recognition for their work. Since launching their
promotional content in June 2024, they have quickly amassed over 20 million views and
63.8k followers on Instagram, along with more than 10 million views and 36.2k followers on
TikTok, solidifying their presence across social media platforms. Their music video “Rein It
In Cowboy” won the American Songwriter Magazine Road Ready video competition, and
the song lyrics for “All Hat, No Cattle” received an honorable mention in the May/June
edition of the magazine. Additionally, their song “This Town Sucks” earned an award for
Outstanding Songwriting in the 2023 Great American Song Contest.
The band has performed at notable venues such as the famous Bluebird Cafe, Desert 5
Spot, The Hotel Cafe, and even the prestigious Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN
(supporting comedian Jim Jefferies). You can usually find them prowling around the LA
music scene, delivering their unique spin on country music to anyone looking for a fun time.
