DJ Music Man Miles

Dj Music Miles Miles first got into funk and soul music listening to late 80s/early 90s hip hop & then discovered the originals by hearing DJ’s like Cut Chemist, Marvski and Mix Master Wolf, who were all busy keeping the original Bronx B-Boy break flavor alive and well in early 90’s Los Angeles underground parties. Miles had been buying a limited amount records to samples beats around the same time for rapper T-Love, though he did not DJ. He had a modest record collection when he first started making beats out twenty years ago but soon found himself addicted to the unending vinyl quest.
In 1997 Miles co organized & promoted a weekly underground hip hop and funky soul jazz sounds dance party called “the Breaks” which also featured a group of Los Angeles musicians eventually named “The Breakestra” playing live loops and medleys of many deep to classic Funk & soul jazz tunes that had been sampled in late 80s and 90s hip-hop.

A year so later the Breaks came to an end and so Miles and Breakestra Keyboardist Carlos “Loslito” Guaico organized a new event called the Rootdown which featured primarily underground Hip hop, seventies funk, disco funk & Jamaican sounds. That party ran for 15 years straight and occasionally has reunion events.
Parallel to the Rootdown, Miles also had started a separate DJ dance party (along with dj Egon of Stones Throw records) called Funky Sole which focused on sixties & seventies deeper raw funk sounds. Funky Sole has been running since 2000 and is still grooving
once a month over at Gold Diggers bar in Hollywood.
