Fleece Kawasaki is the musical project of Kiazi (né Halpern) a singer-songwriter from Brooklyn NY, who is now based in LA. He spent his formative musical years in a supplemental role, playing bass and doing background vocals in bands, but quietly he was becoming a prolific songwriter in his own right, with influences spanning genre, ultimately culminating in a musically upbeat, lyrically morose sound he calls “”gloom pop””.
After a truce in his millennial lifelong battle with angst and imposter syndrome, he eventually got his start as a busker, which allowed him to move to LA, and bloomed into him slowly garnering interest from some of his musical heroes like Matt Bellamy (Muse) and Justin Warfield (She Wants Revenge), even opening for SWR on a few dates of their 2021 reunion tour.
In 2020 he put out his debut release The Desert Flower EP, in 2024 he toured the country opening for glass beach on their national theatre tour. More recently he is finishing his debut album ‘Fake Frowns From Happy People’ with the most recent singles being | Want More, and the newly released ‘Sakura Matsuri. The current iteration of his band has him joined by Paige Arevalo (Paigee) on bass, and Sean Tevalla (Cassowary) on drums, a tight power-trio sound that effortlessly
flows between gentle crooning, big indie rock hooks, and bombastic rock, with a danceable groove.
